Who knew? by AnonymousĬouldn't disagree more. I was surprised that Anne Hathaway has such a nice singing voice though. It was about as subtle as a thrown brick and that ruined it. It went from sly send-up to mind-numbingly obvious right at that moment. It would have been far funnier to have the weird sister be a little creepy and inappropriate but the others to not even notice it than to have it go too broad at the end. But with the weird sister going off on cooking a dog in sauce and eating it (or whatever the end bit was) just made it idiotic.

It was a send-up of Welk acts like the Lennon Sisters and it started off kinda funny, having one of them be ugly and weird compared to the others. It was an odd thing to do a sketch about in the first place since Lawrence Welk is hardly topical news, but funny is funny so if it had worked it wouldn't matter. I thought the skit was funny at first but then they took it too far and it became stupid. Since I'm not an SNL viewer I'm not familiar with Kristin Wiig. I haven't watched SNL for years but I've been tuning in for the Tina Fey/ Palin skits.

I can't believe a discussion of this skit has gone on for so long. Everything else in the sketch rang true, but that missed the mark. The real Biden didn't talk about Scranton at all like that. That's how I felt about the debate sketch when Joe Biden was going on about what a hellish place Scranton was. So aside from the visual humor of the high forehead and tiny hands and the twisted song lyrics, the idea that a family group would include the horribly imperfect little sister was absurd and funny (to me).īut I know what you mean about something not being funny because it isn't grounded in reality. Perfect teeth, hair, clothes, singing and dancing. The Lawrence Welk show was a parade of sugary, wholesome ideal performers, and everything was perfection. You're not wrong for not thinking it's funny, you just didn't think it was funny. So since we don't get it, and in case we are wrong for not getting it, you guys who loved it tell us what was funny about it.please? Yes, we KNOW the L Welk show! Still isn't funny to us because the joke did not seem to have any grounding in that particular show - or any similar show.
